About Us

Troop 21 was started in 1954 when a group of parents and businessmen approached St. George Church to sponsor a troop of Boy Scouts. This church has been constant in its support of the troop. We are also in debt to Knox Trail Council for camping, programs, and direction. We have attempted to repay this support and will continue to do so.

Troop 21 has been blessed with adult help. Mothers and fathers have contributed to leadership and direction of our meetings and camping activities and to our advancement efforts and award ceremonies. This adult support has provided a multitude of talents and experiences.

Our program has been varied. Outdoor camping is the essence of scouting and we attempt to camp each month. We encourage every scout to attend Resolute Scout Camp. High Adventure trips are taken every other summer. Our scouts have ventured to the mountains of New Hampshire and the white waters of Maine. We have slept under the palms of the Florida Keys and on the mountains of Virginia. We bicycled to Purgatory (Chasm) and on the rail paths of Cape Cod. We paddled the lakes of the Boundary Waters Canoe Base. We have marveled at the stars at the Harvard Observatory, the reef fish of the Gulf Stream, the blackness of Luray Caverns and the peaks of Philmont, NM.

Today, the troop is healthy and active with scouts from eleven to seventeen years of age. We work hard to satisfy the interests of young and older scouts. A key to our success is the active participation of the scouts in program planning, training and leadership.
